Please uninstall it, then reboot, and then install the B43 driver from the menu (or try STA again if you really want to use it).The B43 driver works better for the 14e4:4311, though it cannot connect to 802.11a networks. The majority of networks are 802.11b or g, so I don't expect much trouble. But you can of course also try to install STA again. In order to avoid confusion, how do i install it step-by-step? Because the driver that's installed right now was installed by the 'hardware drivers' option.

This is the only way i've used to install drivers since I'm not too familiar with this type of configuration under linux. I installed it through apt-get but it did not make any changes when i typed in inti -N, the old driver (b43-pci-bridge) was still loaded.so i installed also the package firmware-b43-installer according to this document:Since the driver does not show up in 'additional drivers' menu, i tried to forceload it with modprobe by typing 'sudo modprobe -r n43 ssb' first. It gives a fatal error that module ssb is in use, but i continued with 'sudo modprobe b43' - which seems to do something.

Wifi under network manager gives instead the error 'device not ready'.typing rkill list show now a new wireless network card, 'phy0'. Using sudo rfkill unblock all does not change the new cards hard block state, the value stays 'YES' for that card while i can freely toggle the value for hp-wifi with the hardware button.did i install the correct driver with the b43 or should i have gone with b43legacy? AlbertP wrote:There will change nothing in inxi -N when installing the B43 driver. This is normal. After b43-fwcutter is installed, b43-pci-bridge can just be used for wireless networking: its firmware has been installed.Very well, but the wifi is not actually working as of yet. I checked with rfkill list and made sure that there were no blocks for hp-wifi. In dmesg, i see a message for b43-phy0 that the hardware status is changed to disabled - no matter how much i try to toggle it with rfkill or the hardware button.i seem to have run out of ideas how to track this problem in order to get it fully working.

'lspci -vvnn grep 14e4' gives:02:0e.0 Ethernet controller 0200: Broadcom Corporation BCM4401-B0 100Base-TX 14e4:170c (rev 02)10:00.0 Network controller 0280: Broadcom Corporation BCM4311 802.11b/g WLAN 14e4:4311 (rev 01)-I restarted the computer and the STA driver is activated, but still no wifi networks show up in network manager. No hard blocks in hp-wifi, dmesg dosen't show anything about b43 being disabled.doing 'sudo modprobe b43' however puts 'phy0' back in the rfkill list but i still can't manage to toggle its hard blocked state.
